Abiding in Christ
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. - John 15:1-8
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20
In verse 19, Jesus begins by commisioning them to preach the gospel. He also commands that we follow up by discipling the ones that received salvation. Most importantly, He promises us that He will always be with us, and that we need to constantly be depending on Him.
Almost 10 or more years ago in my first encounter in serving in the Dominican Republic, the Lord gave me a heart and love for the culture, the language, and specifically the people themselves. As I’ve taken many trips to the DR I found the Lord has put a great desire to see people come to Christ and also a great need to help them grow in their new found relationship with Jesus. The island is mostly Catholic and Pentecostal. Growing up as a young person under both extremes myself, I never had anyone disciple me in my earlier years as young believer in Christ. It has created a deep love and vision for discipleship and teaching. The Lord has put a vision in my heart to plant a verse-by-verse Bible teaching church in Arroyo Hondo, and from that work that the Lord would raise up pastors to plant other churches around the island. My wife, Joanna, I, and our six children (soon to be seven), will moving to the Dominican Republic this year. As we wait and seek the Lord to lead us through each step of His vision; we ask for your prayer support, and your church involvement for teams to come and share the Gospel. And as the Lord leads, in partnering with our family through Saving Grace as we serve on the mission field. Keep Abiding in Christ, ( John 15:1-8 )

God’s Purpose: Peace and Eternal Life
God created you (Genesis 1-2) for fellowship with Him now and for all eternity. He loves you and wants you to live in peace with Him and receive eternal life. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
The Problem: Sin
God didn’t make us like clones but instead He gave us a free will and the ability to choose. Unfortunately we each choose to disobey God and go our own way. That side of ourselves is called sin. Sin is what separates us from God for the Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). It also says, "For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Because God is holy there can be no sin in His presence. That is the problem that exists between each of us and God.
God’s Remedy: The Cross
Jesus Christ is the only answer to this dilemma of separation from God. He died on the cross and then rose form the grave to pay the penalty of our sin, completely paying that penalty, bridging the gap between us and God. The Bible says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). God has provided the only way and we must make the choice. Jesus declares “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except by Me” (John 14:6).
Our Response: Receive Christ
We need to receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. We can do this when we believe in His message and trust in Him alone to save us. The Bible says, “Let not your hearts be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1), and “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).
How to Receive Christ:
1. Admit your need – (I am a sinner)
2. Repent (be willing to turn from your sins)
3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave
4. Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit
Pray a prayer similar to this: “Dear Jesus, forgive me all my sins and save my soul. I know that I’m sinful and need Your forgiveness. I ask You to come into my heart and be Lord of my life. Take control of my life and help me to live for You. Thank You for saving me and hearing my prayer. In Your name Jesus I pray…Amen.”
If you prayed a prayer similar to this in earnest you now are a part of the family of God! Please contact us at 717-846-0088 and we will send you a Bible and study materials to get started with your new walk with Christ.
The Bible says, “Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
“He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:12-13).
